Rick Falkowski, Profiles Volume 1 book launch signing
Buffalo author Rick Falkowski has spent the past few years since he published his comprehensive History of Buffalo Music and Entertainment working on a new project, the first published fruit of which will be available for the first time tonight--the initial volume of a series of biographical and historical profiles of people with a significant role in the history of Buffalo and Western New York. Tonight we host Mr. Falkowski for a book signing signalling the release of Profiles Volume 1: Historic and Influential People from Buffalo and WNY--the 1800s. The book profiles 100 people who helped shape local, regional, New York State and American history during the 1800's. It includes the accomplishments of area citizens in politics, law, medicine, manufacturing, religion, music and other areas of business and culture, in addition to describing event that affected the Buffalo region. From the War of 1812, building of the Buffalo Harbor, opening of the Erie Canal, the financial crisis of 1837, development of Delaware Avenue mansions and the Olmsted Park System, growth of manufacturing, the building of the railroads, creation of neighborhoods, and harnessing the power of the Niagara River, meet the people that created and participated in the evolution of the Western New York community.
Rick Falkowski has been involved in all aspects of WNY entertainment during the past 50 years. He is the founder of the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame and Buffalo Music Awards, former publisher of Buffalo Backstage Magazine, entertainment coordinator of Tonawanda's Gateway Harbor Concerts, former employee of the American Society of Authors Composers & Publishers (ASCAP) and a Time Warner retiree. He presents classes on the History of Buffalo Music & Entertainment and Buffalo History for the Erie County Department of Senior Services University Express Program, along with giving presentations at libraries, community centers and for various organizations. In addition, Rick is a columnist for Forever Young Magazine, and author of the two books mentioned above.
