Dorothea Potter,
author of Merry, The Rabbit Mom Didn't Want

Dorothea Potter (born Rogers) returns home to Buffalo to unveil her first children’s book, Merry, the Rabbit Mom Didn’t Want, on Sunday, August 8 at 1 pm at Talking Leaves…Elmwood, 951 Elmwood Avenue. Copies of the book will be available for purchase—the book signing is free and open to the public.

Ms. Potter is a graduate of Bennett High School and S.U.N.Y Buffalo. She holds a degree in Management and worked in business for 15 years in the Buffalo area before becoming a school librarian. Ms. Potter lived in Mississippi for 11 years where she worked as an elementary and high school librarian. She retired in 2008 and now works part time at a public library in North Carolina. Ms. Potter lives on a small farm and enjoys the company of horses, rabbits, and birds. These friends have become the subjects of her water color illustrations and will appear in future books.

Her first book takes place in Buffalo and is the story of a rabbit she had as a child. The rabbit can not live in the house because mom has severe asthma and the medicine for asthma is not very good. The child has to figure out how to care for the rabbit. This dilemma opens the door for Merry, the rabbit, to train the child as a caregiver. Merry makes her wishes known and through a series of unusual adventures draws the family together.
