Hanukkah Program for Children

Talking Leaves …Books is pleased to announce that we will host a Hanukkah program for children on Sunday, December 13, at 3 pm, at our Main Street store, in conjunction with Temple Sinai.  Geared to young children, this free afternoon program featuring stories and customs will be led by Rabbi Alex Lazarus-Klein, with songs and guitar playing by Judith Olin.

Come and play the dreydle game, learn the holiday customs and sing songs.
Hanukah books will be available for purchase. Gift bags will be distributed which will hold the traditional holiday gelt, dreydles, with instructions for playing with them and the prayers to say when lighting the menorah candles.

Attendees are also encouraged to join and support the Talking Leaves program called “Project Coat-tree” by bringing in a coat or other winterwear (hats, gloves, boots, scarves, etc) for donation to a needy child or adult in our community.  Talking Leaves has been distributing donated clothing to non-profit organizations like the City Mission, Journey’s End, and Friends of the Night People for the past 15 years.  Project Coat-tree was the first such project in our area; many similar programs have come into being since we started.

The public is invited to learn about a vibrant ancient Jewish tradition of the winter solstice time.
